Dr. Bill Gilchrist is native of Williston, South Carolina. He received his Bachelors degree from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina and his Medical Degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina. He completed his internship and residency at Wright-Patterson USAF Medical Center in Ohio where he served as Chief of Gastroenterology and completed his Gastroenterology Fellowship at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Dr. Gilchrist served in the Unites States Air Force from 1981 to 1990. While serving as Chief of the Department of Internal Medicine and the Special Care Unit at USAF Regional Hospital in Minot, North Dakota, he received the Air Force Commendation Medal in 1986. He is a senior partner of Digestive Disease Group, PA and The Greenwood Endoscopy Center, Inc and is on staff of Self Regional Healthcare where he is an active member of the Self Regional Healthcare Foundation. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology. Dr. Gilchrist is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, and the American College of Physicians. Dr. Gilchrist is also a member of the South Carolina Medical Association, the South Carolina Gastroenterology Association of which he is past President and the Greenwood County Medical Association. He served as a Board Member of the Board of Visitors for the Medical University of South Carolina in 2005. He is also an active Executive Board Member of the Upper Savannah Council of Government. Dr. Gilchrist is a leader in the South Carolina gastroenterology community and is passionate about colorectal cancer prevention and reaching all of our citizens with information about this preventable disease.
